According to a dubious report this weekend from 91Mobiles, one of Apple’s major distributors in the Asia-Pacific region is getting ready to stock new iPhone and iPad models starting next month, including a purported “iPhone 14 mini” and a 10th-generation iPad with a 10.2-inch display. However, the information is almost certainly inaccurate.
The information was reliably given by Evan Blass, who has already shared photographs of the iPhone 12 and HomePod mini before their respective announcements, disclosed that the fourth-generation iPad Air would include an A14 processor and a USB-C connection, among other things.
Blass is very good at what he does, but in this case, the most recent information is probably false for a number of reasons listed below.
First off, numerous reliable sources, including Ming-Chi Kuo, an esteemed Apple analyst, have said that an iPhone 14 small will not be part of the iPhone 14 lineup. The lineup will instead feature two 6.1-inch models (the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro) and two 6.7-inch variants, according to Apple reports (the “iPhone 14 Max” and iPhone 14 Pro Max).
For those who prefer a 5.4-inch screen, it’s feasible that Apple will keep the iPhone 13 small in its portfolio and offer it at a cheaper price.
Second, while the story indicates that the entry-level iPad will stay with a 10.2-inch display, oft-accurate display industry analyst Ross Young said the 10th-generation iPad will include a larger 10.5-inch display as part of a rumored makeover of the gadget.
Third, despite the claim that the Apple distributor is getting ready to stock new iPad models in September, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted in his newsletter today that new iPads and Macs, including the 10th-generation iPad and iPad Pro models with the M2 chip, will be unveiled at an event in October.
Gurman stated that new iPads and Macs would be delivered in October in conjunction with the release of macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16, respectively.
We’re only a few weeks away from learning which new gadgets are coming and when, as Gurman reports that Apple plans to announce the iPhone 14 on September 7th. The event has not yet been formally announced by Apple.
