The Gmail application on your mobile device allows you to do more than just send and receive emails. You can also use the application to make voice or video calls with coworkers, business partners, or other contacts. Since late 2021, Gmail’s built-in chat function has supported phone calls. You can call mobile phones, landlines, and VoIP numbers using the Gmail app for Android and iOS. Additionally, you can receive audio or video calls from others.

Download the Gmail app for iOS/iPad or Android if you don’t already have it on your smartphone or tablet. If the Chat icon is not shown on the bottom toolbar, enter the application and activate it. To do so, select Settings by tapping the hamburger icon in the upper-left corner. Tap your Gmail account’s email address. In the General section, toggle the switch or choose the checkbox for Chat and Spaces.
Return to the Gmail homepage. You should now notice a Chat icon at the bottom that depicts a speech bubble. Tap on the icon. If you have a chat history with another individual, tap their name to call them. Otherwise, press the New Chat icon and enter the name or email address of the person you wish to contact.
The top of the contact’s screen displays a phone icon and a camera icon. Tap the telephone icon to initiate a phone call. Assuming the other party is accessible to accept the call, you will be connected to them. When the call is over, Tap the red phone icon to end it. Gmail will prompt you to rate the call’s quality.
Tap the camera icon to begin a video call. After the other party responds, you will be able to view and communicate with each other. But, you can do even more. Tap the kebab menu to access additional choices, including message exchange, screen sharing, and caption display.
To enhance your appearance, hit the Effects icon on the thumbnail video. You can apply backdrop pictures, filters, and other effects to your movie from there. Explore the various effects by tapping the various icons. When complete, hit the phone icon to end the call
