Imagine a popular TV series that you follow religiously, only to find its airing time shuffled every other week. Frustrating, right? This is exactly what’s happening with two daily series ‘La promesa’ and ‘Valle salvaje’, which are bearing the brunt of inconsistent scheduling as the network attempts to boost the faltering ratings of another show, ‘La familia de la tele’. The ongoing adjustments in airing times, compounded by interruptions for football broadcasts, are starting to take a toll on their viewership.
The Ripple Effect of Schedule Shuffling
Originally, ‘La familia de la tele’ was designed to serve as a lead-in for the two serials, aiming to pull viewers towards a magazine show. However, not only has this strategy failed to increase viewership, but it is also negatively impacting the serials. In an effort to find a successful formula, TVE has been frequently changing the broadcast times of these shows. This constant reshuffling is proving detrimental, as consistency is key for daily series to maintain a stable audience. Ramón Campos, the director at Bambú Productions, expressed his concerns in an interview with Bluper, highlighting the challenges faced by the shows due to the network’s strategy.
A Producer’s Perspective on Network Decisions
Campos is acutely aware of the difficulties but acknowledges that the final decisions on scheduling rest with TVE. He notes, “I produce and they schedule. If they let me produce my series, I cannot tell them how to schedule. However, looking at objective data, it’s clear that the series are suffering a phenomenon common across all networks.” Despite understanding the network’s position, Campos is candid about the personal disappointment he feels when a well-performing product is mishandled in an attempt to compete in the ratings war. He points out that the prime time slot, typically around 5:00 PM, sees the best viewership figures, which then drop off due to competition and scheduling changes.
The Impact of Instability on Viewer Loyalty
Campos emphasizes the importance of consistency in broadcast timing for daily serials. He believes that when viewers are accustomed to watching a show at a specific time on a specific channel, any disruption can lead them to seek alternatives or abandon watching altogether. This sentiment is echoed in his statement, “When you break that habit for the viewer, they might just move on to RTVE Play or other platforms.” This not only affects viewer loyalty but also the overall success of the programming strategy implemented by the network.
Through this turbulent scheduling, both ‘La promesa’ and ‘Valle salvaje’ continue to struggle in maintaining their audience. The producer’s insights provide a behind-the-scenes look at the complexities of television programming and the delicate balance required to keep both the network and the audience satisfied.
