Discover how Figma is reshaping the future of design with its latest updates! The popular collaborative design tool has just rolled out 15 new features aimed at making its interface more accessible, smoother, and easier to use. If you thought Figma was just about design and prototyping, think again! The platform is evolving, integrating enhanced productivity and accessibility through a variety of AI-supported enhancements. These changes are not only making the platform more inclusive but also streamlining workflow processes for teams.

Revolutionizing Keyboard Control and Collaboration

Figma has introduced enriched controls for navigating and creating through keyboard-only input. This update includes new shortcuts for adjusting objects on the canvas, selecting elements, aligning shapes, and adding lines and guides. The updates extend across Figma’s products. For instance, Figma Design now allows users to add and modify lines or create arcs from ellipses. In FigJam, users can reorder tables, manipulate markers, notes, or highlighters, and interact with embedded content. Figma Slides has been made more user-friendly with the ability to resize presenter notes and adjust their tone using AI.

Efficiency in collaboration has seen significant improvements as well. It is now possible to navigate, add, or move comments solely using the keyboard across all Figma products, and browse annotations in Dev Mode. Additional toggle settings have been introduced to customize user experience, such as disabling shortcuts during typing or choosing to automatically follow a collaborator in Spotlight—a feature that shows live what another user is doing.

Enhanced Accessibility and Improved Readability

Figma has also upgraded its screen reader support, an essential feature for accessibility. Objects on the canvas are now better interpreted, with each element announced by its type, name, and state. Moreover, the navigation order has been made more logical and consistent through a revamped organization of menus, panels, and buttons. A significant addition is that screen readers can now recognize text formatting, which greatly facilitates content understanding.

Readability has advanced with a new enhanced contrast mode, which heightens the distinction between texts, icons, and backgrounds—useful in brightly lit environments or after long hours of screen time. Figma Sites, the tool for creating websites, has adopted new accessibility options including the addition of ARIA attributes, alt text management, HTML tags visible from the Layers panel, and simplified editing of roles or labels.

With these updates, Figma is better designed for all users, accommodating various work habits and accessibility needs. This suite of enhancements ensures that Figma not only remains a tool for design and prototyping but also a comprehensive platform for collaborative productivity and accessibility.
