1. Severance makes a thrilling return
Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Apple TV+’s acclaimed series resumes with more intrigue as Mark (played by Adam Scott) embarks on a quest to find his very much alive wife. Meanwhile, Helly (Britt Lower) grapples with her new identity as an Eagan, and Lumon Industries deals with the repercussions of the OTC incident. Don’t miss our review of the season two opener.
2. Cameron Diaz stars in Back In Action
Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Cameron Diaz makes her long-awaited return to the silver screen after a decade since Annie, in the new action-comedy Back In Action. Alongside Jamie Foxx, she plays a retired spy thrust back into the world of espionage after their cover is blown. The film features a star-studded cast including Andrew Scott, Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, and Jamie Demetriou. Stay tuned for The A.V. Club‘s review this Friday.
3. Roy Wood Jr. premieres on Hulu
Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Comedian Roy Wood Jr. explores topics such as American gun culture and retail experiences in his new special, while also delving into the nuances of loneliness.
4. Dave Chappelle hosts SNL once again
NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.: Dave Chappelle returns to host Saturday Night Live for the fourth time, kicking off the new year at Studio 8H. Accompanying him is musical guest GloRilla. Look for The A.V. Club‘s coverage of the show early Sunday morning.
5. Sam Heughan spices up the screen in The Couple Next Door
Starz, Friday, 10 p.m.: British drama The Couple Next Door stars Sam Heughan and Jessica De Gouw as a married couple who engage in swinging. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they mingle with their conservative new neighbors, played by Eleanor Tomlinson and Alfred Enoch. Expect a full review from The A.V. Club.
6. Dive into A Different Man
Max, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Sebastian Stan delivers a standout performance in one of 2024’s most compelling films. He portrays a man who, after undergoing surgery to correct a facial disfigurement, confronts the harsh realities of his new life. The film also features Adam Pearson, Renate Reinsve, and Owen Kline.
