The percentage of water contained in the human body is around 60% in a man, 50% in a woman and an elderly man reaches 45%, while a newborn can reach 75% and 80%.

The difference depends on body composition, especially on adipose tissue – poorer in water than lean tissue – and which is physiologically more present in women. Thus, an overweight person has a lower percentage of water compared to the body of a person with normal weight.

Bottled water labels yield valuable information

Water is essential for our body because it performs many vital functions, so much so that a 7% reduction in total body reserves is enough to put one’s health at risk.

Water is also the main element present in the bloodstream since blood is made up of 92%. To avoid dehydration, doctors recommend drinking between 1.5 and 2 liters of water a day, depending on the season of the year and the type of physical exercise you do.

Fixed residue

It is among the first information on the label. Measured in mg / l, it represents the number of minerals, that is, calcium, phosphates, nitrates, sodium, magnesium, bicarbonates, potassium, and chloride that remains after the evaporation of a liter of water at 180 degrees. The richer the water in mineral salts, the higher the percentage of fixed residue.

Based on these values, mineral waters are classified into:

Oligominerals: residue up to 500 mg / l.

Minimally mineralized: less than 50 mg / l. Can be used for preparing food for newborns

Rich in mineral salts: more than 1-500 mg / l.

PH value

The pH indicates the acidity and alkalinity of the water and varies on a scale of 0 to 14. A pH of 7 represents neutrality and corresponds to distilled water at a temperature of 25 degrees. A lower or higher value indicates respectively acidic or alkaline water. Natural mineral water has a pH between 6 and 8, a sparkling mineral water has a lower value while a rich in bicarbonates will have a pH higher than 7.

pH meter works far more efficiently than any other pH testing equipment. Many companies produce pH water meters and sell them. One of them is OHAUS PH water meters.

The reason why many people keep pH water scales at home is that it is very necessary to drink pH balanced water; otherwise, it might affect your health.
