Netflix’s Hit Show “Dept. Q” Prepares to Tackle New Cold Cases in Season Two
DCI Carl Morck will once again descend into the basement of the Edinburgh police station to take on his role. Netflix has just revealed that its popular procedural series, Dept. Q, will return for a second season. This is great news for Matthew Goode, who leads the cast as the tenacious DCI Morck. He heads a quirky squad of detectives, reminiscent of the team from Slough House, who delve into long-forgotten cold cases with a unique, rough-around-the-edges approach. Goode is set to reprise his role, alongside his team of oddballs including Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy. The show is a brainchild of Scott Frank, the creative force behind Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, and is based on the novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen. The series portrays Morck and his team as they tackle unresolved mysteries with a blend of dark humor and gripping procedural dynamics. Despite their unconventional methods, these detectives consistently deliver results.
The initial season of Dept. Q was well-received, even when held up against Slow Horses. “Though both series share a sharp, irreverent tone, watching Dept. Q offers a distinctly different experience from the consistently intense and tightly-wound British series,” noted Tim Lowery, TV editor at A.V. Club.
