American Primeval (Netflix, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)
The creator of Friday Night Lights, Peter Berg, teams up again with actor Taylor Kitsch for a six-episode Western drama set in 1857. American Primeval explores the clash between religion and culture on the American frontier. Kim Coates stars as LDS church leader Brigham Young, with a supporting cast that includes Betty Gilpin, Dane DeHaan, Jai Courtney, Shawnee Pourier, and Kyle Bradley. Stay tuned for The A.V. The Pitt (Max, Thursday, 9:01 p.m.)
Long after his days on ER, Noah Wyle returns to the world of medical dramas as the lead in The Pitt. This show captures a 15-hour ER shift in Pittsburgh, reminiscent of the real-time format of 24. The first season spans 15 episodes and features Fiona Dourif, Tracey Ifeachor, Supriya Ganesh, Isa Briones, Shabana Azeez, and Patrick Marron Ball. Expect weekly recaps from The A.V. Club.

Shifting Gears (ABC, Wednesday, 8 p.m.)
Tim Allen returns to ABC after his stints on Home Improvement and Last Man Standing with Shifting Gears. In this sitcom, Allen portrays a stubborn widower who opens his home to his estranged daughter, played by Kat Dennings, and her children. The cast also includes Seann William Scott, Jenna Elfman, and Daryl Mitchell.
On Call (Prime Video, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)
Prime Video welcomes Dick Wolf with his new half-hour police procedural, On Call. The series follows a training officer (Troian Bellisario) and her rookie partner (Brandon Larracuente) who juggle personal losses with their duties in Long Beach, California. The cast is rounded out by Eriq LaSalle and Lori Loughlin.
