Ben Stiller Opts to Direct a WWII Survival Thriller Instead.

If Ben Stiller were to take on every project currently on his plate, he’d literally have to clone himself. Fortunately for Mark Scout, splitting oneself into multiple parts isn’t a viable option yet—even for a prolific producer like Stiller. Instead, Stiller has chosen to focus on a World War II survival thriller he’s eager to film, according to the Los Angeles Times.

This marks the first time Stiller will not direct any episodes in a season of the highly-regarded series. “At this stage in my life, I feel the clock ticking,” the 59-year-old actor expressed, noting that there are still numerous endeavors—like the war film—he wants to pursue. “Turning 60 feels monumental. It’s difficult to ignore… And then there’s that awareness of what’s next… ‘Oh, crap.’”

Despite these reflections, Stiller shows no signs of decelerating. Alongside the WWII thriller, which will focus on an airman who joins the French Resistance after being shot down in occupied France, Stiller is also working on a documentary about his parents, titled Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, which just premiered at the New York Film Festival. Additionally, he is preparing for a sequel to Meet The Parents.

However, Stiller hasn’t completely abandoned the Lumon project. The director has been actively planning season 3 with creator Dan Erickson and the Severance writing team, allowing him the flexibility to dedicate time to his film project. In the meantime, he’s leaving fans with a tantalizing hint: the idea of bringing Al Pacino—who Stiller admires but has never worked with—to appear in a Severance cameo has been suggested. If Pacino joins, he won’t simply be another employee; he might introduce a “new department” entirely, Stiller teased, adding, “I mean, you never know.” It might be best to remove him from those labyrinthine corridors before more secrets are inadvertently revealed.
