Puget Systems, a leading custom PC builder, has recently unveiled its annual reliability rankings for hardware components used in 2024. This list highlights the brands and models that have exhibited outstanding reliability over the past year. It’s important to note that these insights are based on Puget Systems’ direct experiences and partnerships, and do not encompass the entire spectrum of the computer hardware industry.

Despite these limitations, the scope of Puget Systems’ reliability list is broad, thanks to its collaborations with numerous companies across the industry. The data used for this list primarily comes from desktop workstations and rack stations, with a focus only on components that have sold more than 200 units.

The standout performers in terms of CPU reliability were the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and Threadripper Pro 7000WX processors, both registering a low failure rate of 2%. Although this rate might seem high relative to other types of components, it is significantly lower than the average 5% failure rate for processors overall—a testament to the complexity of today’s CPU technology.

On the graphics front, GPUs demonstrated excellent reliability, with an average failure rate of just 0.68%. The Nvidia RTX Ada Generation and the Asus GeForce RTX 40-series ProArt GPUs showed even better performance, with failure rates under 0.5%. Remarkably, the Asus GeForce RTX 40-series TUF GPU reported a failure rate of 0%, highlighting its exceptional dependability.

Motherboards, however, showed a higher failure rate of 4.9% in 2024, likely due to their intricate construction. Nevertheless, the Asus TUF B760M-Plus Wi-Fi II motherboard emerged as a leader in reliability, experiencing only two failures throughout the year and achieving a failure rate of less than 1%.

Kingston also excelled in the reliability rankings, with its memory and storage products achieving failure rates of 0.15% and 0.08%, respectively. These rates are significantly below the industry averages for RAM and storage drives, underscoring Kingston’s quality in these areas.

Additionally, three power supply units from Super Flower were recognized for their reliability, combining for a failure rate of just 0.26%. Puget Systems attributed their long-standing partnership with Super Flower to the brand’s consistent delivery of reliable products.

In conclusion, the top five brands that dominated Puget Systems’ 2024 reliability rankings were AMD, Nvidia, Asus, Kingston, and Super Flower. These brands are recommended for anyone looking to build a reliable PC system.

It’s important to remember, however, that while these brands have some highly reliable models, they can also produce components that fail. For instance, Puget Systems encountered issues with some AMD Ryzen desktop processors last year. While these issues were not as severe as those experienced by Intel, they were notable enough to be included in the report.
