Mastering the Impossible in Guitar Hero 2

Perhaps you’re familiar with the flawless runs in Pokemon or FromSoftware games, and maybe they’ve even lost their novelty. However, it’s highly unlikely you’ve witnessed a flawless performance in Guitar Hero 2 where the player starts anew at any missed note.

Over the weekend, streamer Acai achieved the unthinkable by completing all 74 songs in Guitar Hero 2 without missing a single note, maintaining a perfect combo throughout the entire game. A user from ResetEra noticed Acai’s rare feat, marking him possibly the first ever to conquer this challenge.

Acai shared his triumph on Twitter with contagious enthusiasm, posting in all caps: “GUITAR HERO 2 PERMADEATH COMPLETE. 74/74.” His marathon session lasted over eight hours, during which his focus never wavered. Impressively, it took him just around 15 attempts to nail it, although the final congratulatory screen suggests 17 attempts, indicating a couple of preliminary trials.

The screen flashed the message: “Holy shit you did it! With no misses too? WOW.” And indeed, wow is the reaction most have. Having personally tried Guitar Hero in an arcade, I can attest to its difficulty. Playing decently is one thing, but executing a flawless game is on another level entirely.

As Acai neared the end of his challenge, excitement among his viewers skyrocketed. Before his successful run, his best attempt stopped at the halfway mark—37 out of 74 songs. Upon completing the final song, Acai couldn’t contain his excitement, exclaiming: “I fucking did it! I fucking did it!” His disbelief was clear for all to see.

To attempt a similar feat, you would need a modded Xbox 360 and, as noted by TheGamer, a modified guitar controller as well. This setup alone makes replicating Acai’s achievement a formidable task, not to mention the sheer skill required, which many of us can only dream of.
