Are you a fan of retro gaming and the classic Neo-Geo arcade experience? Then you’re in for a treat! Hamster Corporation, the Japanese company behind the celebrated Arcade Archives series, has just unveiled its latest project during the 10th-anniversary celebration of the series. The new ACA2 NEOGEO series is set to revive beloved Neo-Geo classics for modern consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The New Era of Neo-Geo Classics
The ACA2 NEOGEO series isn’t just a rehash of old games. It promises to enhance the gaming experience with new features, including two exciting modes. The time attack mode challenges players to achieve high scores within a time limit, while the crown jewel of the series is undoubtedly the online multiplayer mode, allowing fans to compete against each other from anywhere in the world. Although details are still sparse, and the full list of games to be released remains under wraps, promotional images have teased the inclusion of “The King of Fighters ’98.”

A Special Treat for Arcade Archives Fans
In addition to the introduction of new gaming modes, Hamster has revealed a special offer for fans who previously purchased titles from the original ACA NEOGEO series. These gamers will receive discounts on the ACA2 versions of the games they already own, further bridging the gap between the new and old collections.
Reviving the Legacy
For those unfamiliar, the ACA NEOGEO series is a spin-off from Arcade Archives, specifically focusing on Neo-Geo titles. Since its inception in 2016, the collection has released 108 titles, according to Wikipedia. This initiative has been somewhat dormant recently, with no new releases in the past few years, although existing games were made available on iOS and Android platforms. The series provided a nostalgic escape for early adopters of the Nintendo Switch, offering classics like “Metal Slug 3” and “Spin Master.”

A Surprise Release Marks the Decade Milestone
As part of the 10th-anniversary celebrations of Arcade Archives, a mystery game was slated for release on May 15th, the exact date marking the launch of the first Arcade Archives game in 2014. Speculation was rife within the gaming community, but the chosen title was “Fighter & Attacker,” a shoot ’em up from 1992. Known in Japan as “F/A,” this game is currently available only in Japan for the Switch and PlayStation, continuing the series’ trend of selective Western releases.
This new initiative by Hamster not only celebrates a decade of preserving classic arcade games but also ensures that new generations can experience the thrill of classic Neo-Geo titles with modern twists. Stay tuned for more updates as they come, promising more gaming nostalgia and renewed excitement for arcade enthusiasts worldwide.
