Are you ready for a month of spine-tingling excitement? Yes, Spooktober is upon us, and we’re not just celebrating the chills and thrills for a day anymore; we’ve dedicated an entire month to it! It seems the market has spoken, and who are we to argue? Fortunately for us, the realms of video games have long embraced the eerie, almost as if the virtual worlds and ghostly avatars were meant for each other. So, brace yourself for a slew of both new and classic horror games hitting the shelves this month. But amidst this deluge of dread, some non-horror titles shine even brighter by their scarcity.

The Road Less Traveled: YCJY’s Latest Creation

On the gaming front, YCJY, known for its impactful titles like Post Void and Sea Salt, has unveiled an intriguing project titled “Keep Driving.” This nostalgic RPG throws players into the early 2000s where you traverse the country in an old car to reach a music festival. The journey is uniquely yours, with procedurally generated routes where tasks like doing favors or picking up hitchhikers help you fuel your journey to various festival endings. Each trip can last from one to four hours, promising multiple endings to encourage numerous playthroughs. Drawing inspiration from video games like Oregon Trail II, FTL, Jalopy, board games like Gloomhaven, The 7th Continent, and films like Two Lane Blacktop and Paris Texas, “Keep Driving” is set to be a rich tapestry of cultural references.

New Releases to Watch Out For

If you’re marking your calendars for new games, keep an eye out for Kong: Survivor Instinct, launching on October 22. Developed by 7Levels, this platformer with metroidvania elements sets you in a city torn apart by a monstrous war. Featuring combatants like the giant spider Abbadon and the serpent Tiamat, and of course, Kong (formerly known as King Kong), this game promises to redeem the giant ape’s gaming reputation.
