Are you ready to dive into the latest whirlwind of news in the gaming world? From creative shifts at big studios to exciting game launches, the gaming landscape is buzzing with activity that could reshape your gaming experience.

The Creative Genius Behind Smash Bros Launches a New Venture

Masahiro Sakurai, the visionary creator of the Super Smash Bros series, has recently concluded his YouTube series “Creating Games.” This series, which was scripted and filmed throughout 2021 and 2022, consists of hundreds of videos. These episodes, which cost over $600,000, aim to enhance the future of game development. For those new to the series, Sakurai recommends his penultimate video, a tribute to the late Satoru Iwata. Since 2022, Sakurai has shifted his focus to developing a new game, details of which remain under wraps.

Bungie’s Big Moves and Shaky Times

In a significant restructuring move, Bungie Creative Studios has now been absorbed into PlayStation Studios, as confirmed by former Bungie Senior Director Bridget O’Neill on LinkedIn. This transition appoints O’Neill as the new Senior Director of Creative at PlayStation Studios. Despite these changes, the development of Marathon seems to remain unaffected. However, it’s not all smooth sailing for Bungie. After dismissing 220 employees in the summer, which represented 17% of its workforce, the company laid off an additional 100 staff members in October 2023 due to the poor performance of Eclipse, the latest expansion of Destiny 2. Another 155 employees have been reassigned from working on Destiny or Marathon to roles within Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Metal Slug Makes a Comeback

Fans of the Metal Slug series have a reason to celebrate as Metal Slug Tactics is set to release on November 5. The game, developed by Leikir Studio, will be available on PC and consoles across both current and previous generations. Initially planned for a 2022 release, the anticipation has only grown among the gaming community, eager to see what’s next in store for this beloved series.

Ubisoft’s Strategic Shifts Lead to Cancellations

In a less positive development, Ubisoft Montpellier has reportedly dismantled the team behind the development of Prince of Persia. This decision follows the project’s failure to meet sales expectations. Rather than a typical restructuring, this move involves reallocating the team to different projects within the company, leading to the cancellation of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s sequel. Currently, this remains a rumor, yet it is one of the most discussed topics in recent gaming news.

Each of these stories offers a glimpse into the dynamic and ever-evolving world of video game development. Whether it’s behind-the-scenes shifts in team structures or the excitement of upcoming game releases, the industry continues to offer both challenges and opportunities for innovation.
