Ever wondered how the world of gaming manages to keep us on our toes? Just last week, we transitioned from the high-energy June Jugón days to eagerly discussing the future of gaming consoles. Video gaming isn’t just a pastime; it’s a forward-looking art, constantly evolving and reshaping how we relive the classics of yesteryears.
The Future of Gaming Consoles
The gaming industry might soon experience another evolutionary leap, thanks to AMD’s intriguing new partnership with Xbox. Lisa Lu, CEO of AMD, recently shared insights into this collaboration aimed at crafting the next generation of Microsoft’s gaming consoles. The focus is not just on innovative “optimized chips” for various platforms including consoles, PCs, and cloud gaming, but also on a crucial feature—retrocompatibility. Lu emphasizes that this feature is designed to fulfill a promise to gamers and developers alike, ensuring access to beloved titles across all platforms. While the official confirmation is pending, the buzz around this potential expansion in compatibility suggests older Xbox games could soon run on modern hardware.
Game Releases and Milestones
In the realm of game launches, “The House of the Dead 2: Remake” is set to thrill gamers once again. Scheduled for release on August 8, this revamped classic from Sega, developed and published by Forever Entertainment, will initially be available on PC and Switch. Plans to extend availability to Xbox and PlayStation are underway, though no specific dates have been announced yet.
Adding to the excitement, “Lies of P,” a soulslike game from Korean studio Neowiz, has hit a new sales milestone. Launched in September 2023, the game has sold three million copies, following the release of its highly anticipated DLC, Overture. It’s worth noting that as of March 2024, six months post-launch, Neowiz reported that the game had attracted seven million players, including those on Game Pass, where it debuted and was available until March this year.
