Jessica Lange is returning to American Horror Story in 2026 — and she used a public reunion to air a long-standing gripe about life behind the scenes.
Why her comeback is a big deal
The veteran Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress will rejoin the anthology for the series’ 15th anniversary, marking 15 years since the very first season premiered in 2011 under the subtitle commonly known as “Murder House.” Lange’s presence helped introduce her to a new generation of viewers and became one of the show’s most powerful attractions, elevating the early seasons’ mix of shocks and twisted storytelling.
A candid moment at PaleyFest
Speaking alongside colleague Sarah Paulson at PaleyFest, Lange — whose most recent appearance on the show was in 2018’s American Horror Story: Apocalypse — recounted an unpleasant production detail from the cast’s time filming Coven (season 3). She criticized the network FX for refusing to provide drivers and cars for the cast, calling the network “cheap as hell.” According to Lange, after long nights of shooting in New Orleans the actors had to drive themselves home, often returning to the French Quarter around 4 or 5 a.m., parking on neighborhood streets and finding their way back on foot. “We had to drive ourselves. We’d drive home at about four or five in the morning, park somewhere in the French Quarter and find our way home. It’s still a sore subject,” she said.

How those early roles changed her career
Lange’s turn as Constance Langdon in the first season has been credited with giving her career a renewed boost while also serving as a central hook for the series. That role earned her one of the Emmys she won for American Horror Story; her second Emmy for the anthology came later for her performance as Cordelia Goode in Coven. Her work on the show played a major part in reconnecting her with TV audiences and in defining the series’ early critical success.
