Are you ready to dive back into the high seas with the Straw Hats? Netflix’s live action ‘One Piece’ series is making waves with its upcoming third season, and we’re all aboard heading to Alabasta! But fans are noticing a few changes, particularly with one character—or rather, one character’s feathered friend.

The Missing Companion

In the beloved manga and anime, Princess Nefertari Vivi is never without her trusty duck mount, Karoo. This adorable companion not only adds a unique charm but also plays a pivotal role throughout the Alabasta arc. However, the live-action adaptation has left Karoo out of the picture in the second season, much to the dismay of fans. According to Joe Tracz, the showrunner, while Karoo was initially written into the season, logistical issues regarding the storyline led to his removal. Tracz explained in an IGN interview that having Karoo around would make it hard to believe that Vivi could infiltrate enemy lines undetected, hinting at a less cunning Baroque Works than intended.

Karoo’s Spirit Lives On

Though physically absent, the spirit of Karoo isn’t entirely missing from the series. Tracz shared that elements of Karoo’s presence linger, and a peculiar substitution was made during the Whiskey Peak episode. A cart, which left viewers puzzled when it appeared in the trailer, was used in scenes where Karoo was supposed to feature. Tracz reassured fans that Vivi still mentions Karoo, keeping his spirit alive and well, even if he isn’t physically present on her journey.

Good News for Duck Fans

For those who miss seeing our feathered friend, there’s a silver lining. Tracz has confirmed that Karoo will make an appearance in Alabasta during the third season. This news might even hint at the appearance of more ducks as the saga concludes, much to the delight of duck enthusiasts and fans of the series.
