The PB hev laptop motherboard is smaller than a calculator board

Ever since I got the PB hev laptop, the idea of opening it up to see its insides has been growing in my mind untill I finally dif it. Here is how.

First, turned off the laptop and close the lid until it latches on. Turned the laptop upside down on a flat surface to get acces to the nine philips-head screws (star screws) holding it together.

They are easy to remove and there are no hidden screws as some manufacturers may hide them under the machines rubber feet.

use a flat head srew-driver to remove the back from its mechanic hooks to reveal the inside where you’ll find the battery, mother board, speakers, microphones, mousepad etc.

This laptop has some strange components.
There are a total of 4 small magnets. Two in the body and two in the screen to provide a tight shut when the laptop is closed. There are also two iron bars, one on either side. This provides weight to the body to stabilise it when the laptop is open. This is because the display is quite weighty compared to the body and these weights prevents the machine from tipping over.

Remove the three philips head screws holding down the battery. Peel off the blak fabric tape holding the the power supply from the battery to the board and pull it out to release the battery

Next remove the four philips-head screws holding down the heat sink to release it. Its just a cupper slab which gets the heat from the processor and video card and dissipates it to cool them down.

Removing the heat sink reveals the motherboard.

I have never seen a motherboard as small as this. Its basically the size of a casio calculator board if not smaller. Its rather quite impressive to see the amount of technology that has been cramped in such a small space. At first look we can see that every component is soldered on: from the processor to the RAM to the video card and even its Sandisk 32Gb drive. This is bad news because upgrading this machine is impossible. You can’t add the RAM not to talk of the harddrive. You can also see that its a fanless computer making it super silent because it has no moving parts like a fan or a harddisk drive.

I tried going further with the disassebly but the cables to the screen (nap) and other components seemed to be too fragile to try to remove. I tried and it was breaking apart which made me unconfortable to continue since i did not want to destroy the laptop.

Coupling it is easy if not easier than decoupling it.

Put back the componets and screw them back on.
Powering it after coupling to see if it boots to windows.
