Google has officially announced the rollout of YouTube Music, YouTube Music Premium, and YouTube Premium in India. In 2017, Google brought its Play Music and Play Movies services to India.
When it comes to music, India is a huge consumer of YouTube. According to a 2018 Nielsen survey, YouTube is the most popular music streaming service in the United States, and the Indian music label T-Series recently overtook YouTube star PewDiePie as the service’s most subscribed channel for the third time before falling back to second place. T-Series currently has more than 60 billion views across all of its videos, making it the most-viewed YouTube channel in the world.
The advent of cheap smartphones and decreasing data costs has created a streaming revolution in India, attracting millions of new internet users wanting to listen to music online and attracting the attention of businesses seeking to grow in the country. These new YouTube offerings will compete with established as well as recently launched services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, and most recently, Spotify in the Indian market.
In India, users can access YouTube Music for free with ads, pay 99 rupees ($1.42) per month for YouTube Music Premium, or upgrade to YouTube Premium for 129 rupees ($1.85) per month. These prices are far lower than those of competing streaming services worldwide, yet they are standard in India. If you subscribe to YouTube Premium, you’ll have access to YouTube Music Premium and be able to play videos in the background while using other apps.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy S10 and aren’t already a subscriber to YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, or Google Play Music, you can get four months of YouTube Premium for free.
Refer to the YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium sign-up pages for details on how to get started with a pre-paid subscription. Select either a 1-month or 3-month subscription plan.
