The humorous first-person shooter from Squanch Games launched on December 12 and is playable with Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
Microsoft claims that High On Life is the largest Xbox Game Pass launch of 2022, the largest Xbox Game Pass launch ever from a third party, and the largest release of a single player-only game in the service’s history.
The aforementioned data comes from the total amount of time spent playing the game during its first five days on the market.
Studio director of Squanch Games Mike Fridley said, “This was our first time publishing a game with Game Pass, and we’ve been blown away by the response from gamers who have made us the most popular game on Game Pass right now.”
To paraphrase the founder of Squanch Games, “Game Pass is helping us reach the players that want to play those games too.”
The critical reception to High on Life has been all over the place. At the moment, it has received 64/68 on Metacritic for the Xbox One X/S and PC, respectively, with unfavorable reviews appearing in reputable publications like PC Gamer (4/10), PCGamesN (5/10), and The Guardian (2/5).
Even while more positive reviews were released by outlets like IGN (8/10) and Gamespot (7/10), they were still not the kind of reviews commonly associated with blockbuster titles.
