Lenovo, the inventor of the foldable gadget, has revealed that a new model, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, will be released in 2022. (2022). But what improvements can you anticipate from the foldable successor?
The display is significantly enlarged
The previous Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold’s 13.3-inch screen was a major drawback. That’s not an issue when using it as a tablet, but it became much too small when folded out to resemble a laptop.
The new model from Lenovo addresses this shortcoming by increasing the screen size to 16.3 inches. When folded, Lenovo claims the display will be 12 inches in size, an improvement over the previous model. Even while the Surface Laptop Go 2’s 12-inch folding screen is less than that of the MacBook Air, it is still plenty large enough for comfortable use.
Although the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold isn’t quite as large as the 17-inch Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, it’s possible to make the case that its size makes it more suitable as a tablet.
A Slimmer Profile
In order to enhance the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, Lenovo has opted to trim the fat. The first version was somewhat bulky, measuring 11.5 mm when unfolded and 27.8 mm when folded.
Second-generation foldable laptops are only 8.6mm thin when opened, and 17.4mm thin when folded. That’s a huge change that should make the gadget more manageable to carry and stow away in a purse or backpack.
The new model, however, will be significantly heavier than its predecessor (999g vs. 1.28kg). This is to be expected, though, given the new model’s larger display. Even though the screen size has increased by 4 inches, Lenovo has managed to keep the weight down, which is astounding.
Increased velocity
12th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors are included in the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. As an added bonus, it can be outfitted with as much as 32GB of RAM, giving it a hefty theoretical advantage.
The Intel Core i5-L16G7 processor used in the first generation of the foldable is now considered antiquated. We anticipate significantly higher speeds from the new 12th Gen CPUs, as the ThinkPad has always struggled to achieve a competitive performance, even as far back as 2020.
It’s vital to remember that there’s no distinct GPU in the foldable, so don’t anticipate the new device to be able to edit the likes of photographs and videos at a good speed.
Improved security
The fingerprint sensor has become a common feature on computers, allowing you to sign in without having to memorize a PIN. The original Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold missed this capability, but Lenovo has made sure to incorporate it this time.
You may log in with your face or fingerprint thanks to Windows Hello and a webcam integrated into the keyboard. Those who need to access sensitive information while on the fly will appreciate the additional safeguards.
In terms of functionality, the updated version still supports 5G networks and can be used with a SIM card to provide Internet access wherever you go.
It Will Run on Windows 11
Windows 10, which came preinstalled on the previous model, is not the most touch-friendly OS. Microsoft has tweaked Windows for the better. To make things easier to use on tablets, we enlarged icons and menus and modified the taskbar.
Windows 11 is still inferior to iOS and Android in this respect, but it’s a big improvement over previous versions. Even though Windows 11 can be updated on the 2020 model, knowing that the 2022 version will come pre-installed is still useful.
