Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has been discussing the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase in multiple interviews over the past few days. In one of those interviews, he teased a few future projects that weren’t shown at this year’s event.
Phil was talking to Polygon about why he’s “humbly confident” about Xbox’s first-party lineup in 2024. He said that at least a few of the games in this year’s Showcase were almost ready to be shown last year:
“I’m not too worried about the year 2024. We had trouble in 2022. But I think that waiting on some games… How about South of Midnight? You saw that the game was presented at the Xbox Games Showcase. We were ready to announce that game last year. But we said, let’s keep working on the game.”
“Or, take Clockwork [Revolution]. Last year, when I came to E3, I was at inXile playing that game. Not watching the movie about the game, but playing it.”
Spencer said he feels strongly about 2024 because some announcements are being made closer to the release date, and the team has “confidence in when things are coming out.” He then said that he thinks the hard work and deals of the past few years will “really pay off” in the future, and not just for the next year.
With this in mind, Spencer teased many future Xbox projects that weren’t at the Xbox Games Showcase 2023. These included Perfect Dark, Everwild, and secret projects from id Software and The Coalition.
“When I think about the future… there are so many things. We haven’t talked about what id [Software] is making. We haven’t talked about what The Coalition will do. When is the next time we’ll see Perfect Dark? When are we going to see Everwild?”

“We are still working on many things we haven’t shown yet. I don’t like to be confident, but I do like to be confident in a humble way. I’m happy with where that portfolio is at.”
So, it all sounds very good, and we can’t wait to play Starfield and Forza Motorsport later this year, followed by what looks like a very strong list of first-party games in 2024. Exciting things are coming!
