It has recently become news that LeBron James intends to play with both of his sons: Bronny and Bryce James. For years, it has been well known that LeBron has wanted to play with his 17-year-old son Bronny James.
As Bronny enters his senior year of high school, the major news story to come will be the decision for the next step of his basketball career. It will be interesting to see if Bronny and Bryce make college basketball picks on where to play or if they opt for an alternative like the NBA G-League, Overtime Elite, overseas, or other professional options in 2023 to 2024.
LeBron has always had the intention to play with his oldest son but he then agreed to a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension through the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. His agent Rich Paul said the league-maximum deal makes James the highest-paid player in NBA history. It seemed as if the rumors of LeBron playing on the same team died down but a new Sports Illustrated dropped that featured LeBron, Bronny, and Bryce James.
LeBron was featured on the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated and told Chris Ballard that he wanted to play with Bronny and his younger son Bryce in the last years of his career. He also told Ballard that “I’d definitely be looking at who got first-round picks in 2024, 2025, things of that nature; 2026, ’27.
I pay attention to that type of stuff,” James told SI. Of course, Bryce and Bronny would have to continue improving and break into the ranks of the best players at their age but they are certainly on the path. Bryce and Bronny have the guidance and genetics from the arguably greatest of all time.
Bronny James
Bronny James is currently 17 years old and is entering his senior year of high school at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, California. Bronny is leaning towards playing college basketball rather than other options and is currently ranked as a four-star prospect.
Bronny is a 6′ 2″ combo guard who’s generally ranked in the top 50 of his class and has been in the public eye since fourth grade. He showed early promise and there were reports from ESPN at age 11 that he had scholarship offers from Kentucky and Duke. Bronny is believed to be considering Oregon, UCLA, Michigan, and Ohio State, among other programs. Where he lands, that program is sure to be among the college basketball predictions for a national title.
Sierra Canyon has also been a great school for young players to develop their game and elevate to the next level. For example, Amari Bailey and Brandon Boston are some of the most well-known college players.
Bryce James
Bryce James is currently 14 years old and is entering his sophomore year of high school at Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles, California. Bryce has grown to six foot six and has recently received a lot of social media attention in recent months for his growth.
Bryce has also recently received his first scholarship offer from Duquesne. While they aren’t a popular choice among college basketball picks today, Bryce’s presence would certainly turn the Dukes into a prominent program. As Bryce James continues to grow and become a better basketball player, he will certainly receive offers from bigger and better programs.
LeBron’s goal is certainly contingent on both of his sons being able to make the National Basketball Association. With LeBron’s current contract extension running until the end coming in the 2024-2025 season, Bronny will be hopefully competing in one of the best college programs and Bryce will continue to build his game in his school and receive more coveted offers from colleges.
LeBron has always been extremely intelligent in plotting his next move and his 2-year extension allows his kids more time to develop their game. LeBron probably has his eye on the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder after they have acquired an enormous amount of draft picks after trading valuable assets for future draft compensation.
