It’s probable that long-time Minecraft gamers on PC have had a lot of fun with the Java Edition. Millions of Java Edition owners who purchased the game before October 19th, 2018 can get a free copy of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for Windows 10 as part of a Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Don’t miss out on this opportunity while it lasts.
Since its first release in 2009, Minecraft has been one of the most widely played video games in the world. Since its inception as an independent indie game 11 years ago, Minecraft has grown into the worldwide phenomenon it is today. There are a plethora of Minecraft variants to choose from, so players are spoiled for choice. However, there are two widely-played variations of the core game.
The PC version of one of the most popular versions of the game, Minecraft: Java Edition, is now available. There is a version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Windows 10 as well as for consoles.
Bedrock Edition can be installed on Windows 10 by following these instructions.
What Is Minecraft Bedrock Edition?
When Minecraft: Java Edition and Bedrock Edition for PC are integrated into a single purchase from June 7, 2022, you can get both games for free if you already own one or the other.
What’s new? Prior to Bedrock for PC Edition, you could only get the Java version of Minecraft, or you could buy the original version. It’s possible to buy both, but you’d have to pay twice to have the full spectrum of the PC experience in Minecraft.
That’s no longer a problem as of today. Since you can now play Bedrock on other people’s consoles without having to buy the other, the days of buying one and then finding you required the other to play with pals are over.
Your current status with Mojang/Microsoft and any previous promotions you’ve taken advantage of will determine how you can acquire your free copy of Minecraft.
If you already own Minecraft: Java Edition and got a free copy of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition from Microsoft during the campaign that ran in early 2020 for those who already purchased Minecraft: Java Edition, you already have both versions. Unlike the PC version of Minecraft, the Windows 10 version is called the Bedrock Edition (and was later renamed to reflect that).
Simply log into your Microsoft account and go to the Microsoft Store listing for the Java edition. If you purchased Minecraft: Bedrock PC Edition (possibly Windows 10 Edition at the time of your purchase), then you only need to go to the Microsoft Store listing for the Java edition (now that both editions are merged, they are located at the former listing for Java edition).
To update your account and acquire both versions, simply click the “Get” button, which is positioned where the “Purchase” button would normally be. “Install/Play” is the correct button to use if the Microsoft Store has automatically modified your status from “Install” to “Install/Play.”
Note that if you haven’t switched your Mojang account over to a Microsoft account, you won’t be able to benefit from this bargain. Keep playing Minecraft as the migration is now obligatory (and, of course).
The unified launcher for Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock PC Edition can be found in the Microsft Store. If you need to migrate your account, you can do so there. Minecraft Dungeons, a standalone Minecraft-themed dungeon crawler with major Baby’s First Diablo overtones, is an option if you truly want to complete the stable of games in the Minecraft launcher.
