Dark mode is a fan favourite since it saves power and protects your eyes from the bright screen when you’re trying to sneak in a few more direct messages before night.
As of 2022, dark mode is standard fare for the most majority of apps, but Snapchat definitely took its sweet time getting around to adding it. However, Snapchat still lacks a dark option on Android, but don’t worry; there is a workaround. If you’re ready to take Snapchat in a sinister direction, keep reading; we’ve got you covered.
Snapchat’s I Phone-Exclusive Dark Mode and How to Activate It
Below are the basic steps you need to do to activate dark mode on your iPhone:
Release the Snapchat app.
Click the Bitmoji button on the upper left.
Select the gear icon in the upper right corner to access the settings.
Look for the option labelled “App Appearance” and click it.
Select the “Always Dark” option.

Android adds a layer of complexity to everything. Unfortunately, Snapchat has not yet added a built-in dark mode.
We expect it to be ready soon and will revise this piece accordingly. You can try a temporary fix in the meanwhile.
Not recommended for those with weak stomachs. Please only serious dark mode devotees read on.
Keep in mind that the layout of the settings menus varies slightly from smartphone to smartphone, so you may need to make some adjustments.
Access the device’s configuration options.
Find and click on the option labelled “About phone”
Check the list below for your specific Build number.
7 taps on the Build number activates Developer Mode.
An on-screen message will inform you that you have successfully completed the development process and become a developer.
Choose Developer settings from the main Settings menu.
Select Override force-dark from this menu and activate it.
As a result, regardless of whether they support it or not, all of your apps will now display in dark mode. We aren’t out of the woods yet, though.
The latest version of Snapchat does not respond to the forced dark mode, so we will have to revert to an older version.
For this reason, you’ll need to uninstall Snapchat and reinstall the latest version, 10.72.0.0, which is the only one that supports the inflexible dark mode.
You can get the APK from APKMirror, and the dark theme will function normally with it. Of course, you’ll be missing out on updates and patches, so you’re using it at your own risk if you do.
