Anyone using a single monitor configuration can benefit greatly from making use of Windows 11’s virtual desktops. Multiple desktops can be a lifesaver if you’re still working from home due to the epidemic and trying to manage multiple projects on a single computer.

Easily create new virtual desktops with the help of Windows 11’s Task View pane. Viewing options for your virtual desktop include the ability to transfer apps between desktops, display windows on all desktops, or hide sites on a single desktop. The procedure is outlined below.

How to Create a Virtual Desktop in Windows 11

To make a new virtual desktop, either press the Windows Key + Tab or select the Task View button (two overlapping black and white rectangles) on the taskbar.

If the Task View button isn’t there on your taskbar, you may add it by right-clicking the bar and selecting Taskbar settings. To activate Task View, simply click the button.

To create a new virtual desktop, select New desktop from the Task View pane. Gray tile with a plus sign represents the “Add a desktop” option. To make that desktop background, click on the tile.

With the shortcut Windows Key + Ctrl + D, you can create a new desktop without opening the Task View window.

How to Change Windows 11 Desktops

Open the Task View window and then select the desktop you wish to switch to. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard commands Windows Key + Ctrl + Left Arrow or Windows Key + Ctrl + Right Arrow to move between desktops without opening the Task View pane.

Name Your Windows 11 Desktops as You Choose!

Desktops can be more easily managed when given descriptive names. Desktops can be renamed by opening the Task View pane, right-clicking a desktop, and selecting Rename from the context menu. The ability to have music playing on one desktop while doing work on another is now a reality.

You may easily tell one workspace from another by its background colour. To do this, launch Task View, right-click a desktop, and select Choose background from the context menu.

What You Need to Know About Windows 11’s Desktop Switching Features

You can drag and drop a programme from one desktop to another by opening the Task View pane and then hovering over the desktop where the app resides. When you click on a desktop, the programmes associated with that desktop will open. The Task View pane allows you to drag and drop applications across desktops, or you may right-click an app, select Move to, and then select the desktop you want to place the app on.

How to Create a Virtual Desktop in Windows 11

If you open the Task View pane and then move the mouse over the desktop you want to close, you will see a small “X” appear in the top right corner of the desktop. Use the close button (X) to get rid of the desktop.

Alternatively, you can use the Windows key plus Tab to bring up Task View. Then, close a virtual desktop by selecting it with the arrow keys and pressing the Delete key.
