How to Change the Administrator in Windows 11

How to Make User Account an Administrator on Windows 11

Posted on November 18, 2022 By Ankita Bissyer No Comments on How to Make User Account an Administrator on Windows 11

Similar to earlier versions of Windows, Windows 11 has two primary account types (including “Administrator” and “Standard User”) that determine a user’s permissions when using the operating system and its associated software.

Take the “Administrator” account, which has full privileges on the gadget. A user with this level of access can do anything—install programmes, execute commands with root privileges, modify system-wide settings, etc.

While the “Standard User” account type provides the highest level of security, it also gives the user the fewest possible permissions. A regular account user can run programmes, but they cannot add any new ones. If the programme needs to be elevated, the user will be asked to provide their administrator credentials. Users have the ability to adjust certain parameters, but only those that are exclusive to their account.

As a rule, it’s best practice to have everyone (even administrators) use the same account type. However, depending on your needs, Windows 11 lets you switch between Standard User and Administrator account types in a number of ways, including through the Settings app, the Control Panel, PowerShell, and the Command Prompt. In this article, we’ll go over the many options available in Windows 11 to change the account type.
