The calendar of events for Elder Scrolls Online grows with every passing year as the community celebrates more and more past expansions alongside established in-universe holidays. There are several new holidays coming up in 2022, such as the Daedric War Celebration which is derived from the Tribunal Celebration (which didn’t include Summerset).
While not many of the dates are set in stone yet, it’s very possible to speculate on when recurring events will happen. Elder Scrolls Online‘s Anniversary, for example, happens around April 4th every year, while events like Heroes Reforged and the Explorer’s Celebration is nearly impossible to predict.
Though the year is nearly halfway over, there are lots of ESO events 2022 still has in store. The Jester’s Festival, Anniversary Event, and Whitestrake’s Mayhem have come and gone, but events like the Witch’s Festival are coming up quickly, and DLC-specific celebrations are sure to be announced too. In addition to upcoming ESO events, 2022 will also see the introduction of the High Isle Chapter, which is sure to be accompanied by a Reforged event for free respecs and possibly a new Breton-themed holiday
Daedric War Celebration: January 20 to February 1
The Daedric War Celebration commemorates the events of the Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset chapters, all to do with the invasion of Tamriel by three Princes not bound to Sotha Sil’s Daedric contract that prevents interference in Mundus. The event was called the Tribunal Celebration until this year, as it now includes Summerset which features none of the Living Gods.
The event is one of the few officially confirmed and will begin on January 20th, run for 13 days, and end on the 1st of February. Players can collect Event Tickets for specific rewards, earn Daedric War Spoils boxes for randomized rewards, and can expect to receive bonuses to loot and harvesting materials in each of the Chapter and DLC zones.
Whitestrake’s Mayhem: February 17 to March 1
Whitestrake’s Mayhem is a new name given to the Midyear Mayhem event in Elder Scrolls Online. Whitestrake’s Mayhem will take players back to the PvP areas of the game, like Cyrodiil and the Imperial City, in a celebration of the Divine Crusader Pelinal Whitestrake’s victory over the ancient Ayleids.
During the event, players receive double Alliance Points as well as the chance to earn Pelinal Boon Boxes which can contain a huge variety of useful items. This event happens twice every year, though the date of the second has not been revealed yet.
Jester’s Festival 2022: March 31 to April 2
The Jester’s Festival is a celebration of all things silly that just so happens to line up with the real-life holiday April Fool’s Day. Fittingly,
players can earn a variety of Jester-themed clothing and cosmetics as well as a variety of Prank items, Pet fragments, wacky motifs, and style pages, as well as a special item that doubles experience.
Unlike most events, the Jester’s Festival can only be accessed outside of three cities: Daggerfall, Ebonheart, and Vulkhel Guard. Just be sure to complete the intro quest to get a boost to your Event Tickets.
Anniversary Jubilee 2022: April 7 to April 19
Elder Scrolls Online was released on April 4, 2015, and in its near-seven-year existence has had plenty of occasions to celebrate its own anniversary. Players automatically receive a huge XP boost during this event, but that’s not the only draw for this celebration.
Like many events, players can earn a special box containing rewards from this event, called the Anniversary Jubilee Box. These contain an absolutely HUGE number of possible rewards, including countless crafting styles, furniture recipes, motif pages as well as vast quantities of crafting materials. If nothing else, it’s a great time to start a new character.
Year One Celebration: Fall
The first year of Elder Scrolls Online saw the addition of Craglorn, the Imperial City, and Wrothgar to Tamriel. In years since players have celebrated the approximate anniversary of this event sometime around Fall, as the Orsinium DLC was added in September.
As such, this event is tied to the group questing area of Craglorn, the PvP zone of the Imperial City, and the PvE orcish province of Wrothgar. Playing in these areas yields special rewards, and though no date is set in stone, players can likely expect this event to start in early Fall this year.
Witches Festival 2022: Late October
The Witches Festival is a fan-favorite holiday thanks to its spooky skins, motifs, and other cosmetics only available during the event – plus, players get an automatic 100% boost to XP for its entire duration. During the Witches Festival rewards are earned from Plunder Skulls, which can drop a vast number of haunted and spooky items.
Furnishings, costumes, pets, beverages, and more all get a Witchy makeover from these Skulls, which can drop from almost anything in ESO. It generally happens around the time of Halloween, and its combination of fun items, and open-ended exploration-and-reward system, and of course the XP boost makes it one of the most popular times of the year for the game.
Undaunted Celebration 2022: Late November/Early December
An Undaunted Celebration is an event themed around Elder Scrolls Online‘s iconic group of dungeon-delving adventurers, who are associated with some of the best items in the game as well as some of the most challenging Trials. It happens at different times each year, and 2022’s date hasn’t been announced, but it’s more than likely to pop up at some point as it’s been a mainstay of ESO‘s events for some time now.
During the Undaunted Celebration, players can earn Undaunted Keys as well as a variety of other useful items from Undaunted Reward Boxes. These can only be earned from the final bosses of the game’s Trials, though Event Tickets can also be earned from regular bosses to spend with the Impresario on pet fragments, outfit styles, and even player housing.
New Life Festival 2022: Early December
The New Life Festival is something of a blend between Christmas and New Years’, taking place at the end of the year to bring new life to the next. It can only be accessed at one location in Eastmarch, which makes sense considering the snow-swept landscape of the zone.
During this event, which typically goes from mid-December to early January, players can earn New Life Gift Boxes containing a variety of themed mementos, hats, pets, furnishings, and other cosmetics that help to warm up an otherwise frigid part of the year. Like the Witches Festival, expect to see lots of players in-game around this time of the year.
Unconfirmed ESO Events
Several events in Elder Scrolls Online‘s past haven’t happened ever again or are so up in the air that estimating when they might take place is impossible. Some events, like the Lost Treasures of Skyrim or the Bounties of Blackwood, could easily happen in 2022 but haven’t been around as long as more well-established events like the Daedric War or Year One Celebrations. Other events, like the Play For Free event or the Explorer’s Celebration, kind of pop up without much notice throughout the year.

- Tribunal Celebration
Elder Scrolls Online has a number of events tied to specific DLC releases for the MMO. These events don’t happen every year and are usually announced just weeks before going live. Each of these events follows a similar formula that aims to bring players back to these zones in pursuit of unique and DLC-specific items, cosmetics, and boosted crafting material numbers among many other enticing rewards.
RELATED:
Explorer’s Celebration
The Explorer’s Celebration doubles players’ XP and gold from all sources and also doubles the number of harvested crafting materials everywhere in the game. The event is somewhat randomly announced throughout the year, and in 2022 the Explorer’s Celebration took place alongside the launch of the Ascending Tide DLC. There could be a second one this year, as there were two in 2021, but nobody knows exactly when.
Heroes/Champions Reforged
Heroes Reforged and Champions Reforged are events that tend to go live alongside the release of a major DLC or Chapter. During Champions Reforged players are able to respec Champion Points for free, and during Heroes Reforged players can respec their Attributes, Skills, and Champion Points for free. Heroes Reforged happens less frequently than Champions Reforged, as it’s a strict upgrade.

ESO Play For Free Event
Many times throughout its now 8-year lifetime Elder Scrolls Online has hosted a Play For Free event, inviting players to try the game at no cost. Though ESO Plus has lots of benefits as a monthly subscription, like free access to DLC, most Elder Scrolls Online is playable after a one-time purchase for the base game itself. The ESO Play For Free event takes away this barrier for a short time and is usually accompanied by a sale on the base game and major DLCs. In 2022, there has already been one Play For Free event that happened from April 14 to April 26.
