This week, Apple discreetly changed Apple Music significantly by cutting the initial free trial offer from three months to one. When Apple Music first debuted
in 2015, the three-month free trial helped differentiate it from rivals like Spotify. Today, though, the service just offers the normal one-month free trial.
This week, Macotakara was the first to notice the change, and 9to5Mac later confirmed it. All users are now eligible for a free month of service, according to
the Apple Music website. The plan will automatically renew at the full $9.99 per month pricing after the one-month trial period.
All nations where Apple Music is available will see a shorter free trial time. Worldwide, the service is accessible in more than 150 nations.
However, Apple continues to give new members who buy a qualifying audio product a six-month trial of Apple Music. This includes Beats and HomePod mini
in addition to AirPods Pro, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max. Other companies, like Best Buy, frequently include free trials of Apple Music with certain
hardware purchases.
Apple Explains:
With an appropriate audio device, new users can receive six months of Apple Music for free. Verify that the most recent iOS or iPadOS version is installed on
your iPhone or iPad. Once your audio device is connected to your iPhone or iPad, you may activate your Apple Music trial. The offer must be used within three
months of the eligible device’s first activation.

Any Beats Fit Pro, Beats Studio Buds, Beats Fit Pro, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro, or Beats Solo Pro are eligible, as well as AirPods Pro, and AirPods (2nd and
3rd generation), AirPods Max, HomePod, and HomePod small. For current owners of qualifying devices, no purchase is necessary. First-generation AirPods,
Beats Solo3, Beats Studio3, Beats EP, and Beats Flex are all ineligible.
The new Apple Music Voice plan and the Apple Music student plan continue to have the same beginning price of $4.99 for Apple Music. The monthly cost of
the solo plan is $9.99, while the monthly cost of the Apple Music Family plan is $14.99. The Apple One bundle, which starts at $15 per month for individual
access to Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+, also includes Apple Music.
For those who are unsure, Spotify is giving new customers who decide to pay with PayPal a free three-month trial option.
9to5Mac’s Take
This change is a bit perplexing on multiple levels. Apple has long touted that the three-month free trial for Apple Music helps set the service apart from the
competition. But on the flip side, I suppose that anyone who was tempted by the three-month trial has likely already taken advantage of it since Apple Music l
launched over 6 years ago.
Additionally, there is believed to be a least some amount of exodus from Spotify to Apple Music right now, depending on who you talk to. Apple could be trying
to convert those people switching from Spotify to Apple Music into paying subscribers as quickly as possible.
