Since its introduction in 2012, Apple has offered a mapping service. Apple Maps has been around for nearly a decade, but it still has a ways to go before it can compete. Commuters all over the world love using Google Maps, and with good reason: the app is always being improved with new features.
The ‘Nearby’ function in Apple Maps was only turned on in India yesterday. In this way, consumers can locate nearby services such as restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. Apple Maps introduced live transportation data to more markets including Canada, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
Major changes were made to Apple Maps with the release of iOS 13 in 2017. It altered the aesthetics and added new practical functions. Even more so than its competitors, Apple Maps has fallen behind since it is not available in as many countries. As with Google, Apple often debuts or tests new features in the United States first. Apple Maps isn’t as widely available as Google Maps just yet.

After initially only being available in 32 cities throughout Australia, China, and the United States, Apple Maps has only just added real-time transit to six additional countries. It also expanded availability of its Nearby function, which was previously only available in India, to another 30 nations.
Last year was the first year that Apple Maps’ turn-by-turn navigation was available in India. The likes of the Bahamas, China, Greece, and Uruguay are now included in its reach. This has been available on Google products for quite some time, and in 2018 it was rolled out to the Maps Go app for budget Android devices.
Apple Maps is becoming becoming competitive with Google Maps. However, it appears that Google Maps will continue to dominate the navigation app market.
