Exciting news for Samsung TV owners! The South Korean tech giant has finally embraced Google Cast, a feature long available on competing devices, marking a significant shift in its approach to smart TV functionality. This move aims to enhance user experience by offering more versatile content streaming options directly from various devices.

The Dawn of Google Cast on Samsung TVs

Samsung’s integration of Google Cast begins with its 2026 smart TV models, which will feature the service natively. Furthermore, Samsung plans to extend this functionality to its 2025 and 2024 models through firmware updates (version 2115 or later). However, the situation for 2023 models remains uncertain, even though they continue to receive updates for the Tizen system.

A Leap Toward Enhanced Compatibility

Previously, Samsung TV users were limited to using Smart View, a proprietary solution that offered less universal compatibility, or opting for Apple’s AirPlay. This was particularly frustrating in an ecosystem where Google Cast has become a standard feature across a wide array of devices, including Google TV boxes and LG TVs running webOS.

With the introduction of Google Cast, Samsung TV owners can now effortlessly stream videos, music, and photos from Android smartphones, iOS devices, or even Chrome browsers on PCs directly to their TVs without the need for additional hardware. This development is a significant step towards aligning Samsung TVs with current multi-platform compatibility standards.

Shifting Towards Open Ecosystems

This strategy shift reflects a broader change in Samsung’s approach to its ecosystem. Traditionally known for its closed systems, Samsung appears to be opening up to more universally accepted standards. By adopting Google Cast, already a feature in LG’s smart TVs, Samsung is moving towards making its devices more universal and interoperable.

The key question now is how quickly Samsung will roll out this update across the eligible models. With Google Cast, Samsung addresses one of the most significant gaps previously highlighted in its smart TV offerings, potentially increasing its competitive edge in the market.
