Kurt Russell Joins Michelle Pfeiffer in The Madison, a Yellowstone Spin-off
Taylor Sheridan’s rapidly growing Yellowstone franchise is adding another high-profile actor to its lineup. Kurt Russell is heading to Montana for The Madison, according to Entertainment Weekly. Joining him is Michelle Pfeiffer, who was announced earlier. The two previously co-starred in the 1988 film Tequila Sunrise, making this project a nostalgic reunion. Additionally, Russell will be working again with Matthew Fox from Lost, who was his fellow actor in the 2015 horror-Western Bone Tomahawk. In that movie, they battled a tribe of cannibalistic cave-dwellers, a stark contrast to the foes they might encounter in this new series, although integrating such formidable adversaries would certainly add a thrilling element to the established Yellowstone narrative.
Taylor Sheridan seems to effortlessly attract award-winning talent from Hollywood to his Western settings, and Kurt Russell is no stranger to the genre. His notable Western roles include Tombstone alongside Val Kilmer, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, the 1976 TV series The Quest, and his very first credited role in 1964’s Guns Of Diablo. Fans might be hoping for the return of his iconic Tombstone mustache, but it remains to be seen if it will make an appearance in The Madison. According to EW, it’s not yet confirmed whether Russell’s character will be introduced in the show’s first season or if he’s slated for a later series. The first season, described as “a poignant exploration of grief and human connections set against the backdrop of a New York City family in Montana’s Madison River valley,” began production last August in Montana before moving to Texas for further shooting in November and December. A producer recently revealed to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that production on the second season is set to commence in Texas this month, though an official renewal from Paramount has yet to be announced. The exact role of The Madison within the larger Dutton family saga will be revealed once the streaming service announces a definitive premiere date.
